Thank You!

This is a very exciting time right now. In just over 3 weeks, I'll be heading out to Hawaii to participate in a 26 day yoga teacher training intensive. It's amazing how things come together. Now that I'm reaching the final stretch, I'm digging deep and asking for some more help. Through generous friends and the overwhelming generosity of my teacher, I have raised 00 since March. I'm so grateful and am really impressed with just how giving the Universe/God or whatever you choose to call the Creator is. I'm in awe. I've also found a job that pays pretty well. Recently, my job has offered lots of overtime. And I'm happy to say that I'll be able to pay my tuition and room and board. So, why am I asking for money? Airfare! I'd need to get to Hawaii in order to participate. Also, I need to buy a tent for me to live in. Kundalini Yoga changed my life. I am so eager to share what I've learned with everyone. I'm especially excited to help women and girls who have survived rape and sexual abuse reclaim their bodies through the technology that is Kundalini Yoga. The total cost of tuition, tent site and meals including airfare is 00. I only need another 00 to pay for my flight and tent. Thank you so much for reading this posting.

Many Blessings!

How I am dealing with Pain

Prior to February 27, 1996 I had lived a life with many different challenges. But, on that cold February day my life changed forever. Waiting patiently for traffic to clear there was a major crash; a woman had, in my opinion, used me (my car) to stop instead of her brakes. From that time forward I have lived with pain.

This pain started in my chest as a result of surgery done years before. In 1981 I had a bilateral mastectomy (both breasts) with reconstruction following. This accident broke both of the implants and one of the capsules that the body forms around the implant. At one point while attempting to handle the extreme level of pain, ranging from 6 on a very good day to 9 when the migraine was added to the chest pain, I ask the doctor for something to help me handle the excruciating pain and trauma. When he said no, I flippantly questioned whether I needed to call Dr. Kevorkian, aka "Dr. Death." The pain had caused me to say something that had I not been consumed by the pain I would most likely have thought about what I was going to say. But, to my surprise, everyone in the office moved so quickly, apologized profusely and handed me a prescription for pain telling me that if that did not work to just call them and they would find something else that would help me more. Because of the extreme trauma, having to have the breasts reconstructed for the 4th time, the depression had grabbed me so strongly that I knew I needed a shrink (psychiatrist). I ask the attorney, handling my law suit against the woman who hit me, for a recommendation. Little did I know that not only was this doctor a psychiatrist, but he also specialized in pain management. After a few sessions, he came to know and understand me. He knew that if I was asking for medicine to help with the pain, my pain level was well over 6, even though I might only admit to 5. I fought taking any medication. It wasn’t until the doctor explained why the headaches and other pain came back with such vengeance, because I was letting the pain get out of control. The only way to keep my pain level in check was to take the medications on a regular schedule. Having difficulty remembering to eat lunch, I decided to use one of the extra features of my talking watch. It had 4 alarms on it. I was able to set alarms for each time I needed to take medication, along with the time to feed my Leader Dog. Doing this got me to the point of maintaining the pain level at 4.5 to 5.5. Using every possible technique from bio-feedback, to applying ice to specific spot on my body, to tai chi and the yoga I had taught years before. Out of all these different therapies the most useful was the simple reminder to breath, to slow down my breathing, to focus on the breath seeing it bring into the body the healing energy of the universe and exhaling all the pain, dis-ease, illness, problems and anything else that was bothering me at the time. I became so conscious of what I was doing with the breathing, I found a meditation master, who worked with the same foundation, Ashtang Yog - The Eight Limbs of Yoga. From this ancient teaching comes The Levels of Samaadhi (absorption in Oneness). This study of oneness goes even further back to Patanjali Yog Darshan, Delhi, India. I was so impressed with this program that I became certified to teach Transformation Meditation by Sherrie Wade, M.A. The meditation and breathing are what has helped the most. Through my many surgeries, participation in medical studies testing drugs in hopes it will have a positive effect on my PPMS (primary progressive multiple sclerosis). (As a side note: they have still not found anything to help my type of MS.)
